Medullary thyroid carcinoma is an uncommon malignancy of hereditary and sporadic presentation. Mutations in the RET-protooncogene are involved in the pathogenesis of >50% of the sporadic cases. Currently, there is no effective treatment for metastatic medullary thyroid carcinoma.
